Mexico SHG EP - Grainpro

Mexico

Description

The Veracruz region, nestled along Mexico’s Gulf Coast, is one of the country’s most historic and diverse coffee-growing areas. Its combination of volcanic soil, tropical humidity, and high-altitude slopes provides ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Steady rainfall and cool mountain breezes allow cherries to mature slowly, developing a cup that balances natural sweetness, gentle acidity, and a smooth, rounded body.

Coffee production in Veracruz is deeply rooted in smallholder farming traditions, where generations of producers have refined sustainable cultivation methods suited to the region’s unique terrain. Most farms range between 2 and 5 hectares, and producers rely on shade-grown systems, handpicking, and careful post-harvest handling to maintain consistent quality. Local cooperatives and exporters provide training, technical support, and access to international markets, ensuring that smallholder families continue to thrive while preserving Mexico’s rich coffee heritage.

This lot is graded SHG EP (Strictly High Grown, European Preparation).
SHG indicates the coffee was grown at elevations above 1,200 meters, where cooler temperatures slow cherry maturation, resulting in denser beans with enhanced sweetness and structure.
EP (European Preparation) signifies meticulous hand-sorting and cleaning to remove defects and ensure uniform bean size for a clean, consistent roast profile.
The coffee is washed processed, meaning the mucilage is completely removed before drying. This method enhances brightness and clarity while preserving the balanced sweetness and smooth character for which Mexican coffees are renowned.
