Colombia Excelso EP Ixtapa
Colombia
Description
This coffee is sourced from Colombia’s Coffee-Growing Axis (Eje Cafetero), the country’s most iconic coffee-producing region. Encompassing six growing zones and cities such as Manizales, Armenia, Pereira, and Ibagué, the area is known for its fertile volcanic soil, abundant rainfall, and stable year-round temperatures. With altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 meters above sea level, the region offers ideal conditions for slow cherry maturation, resulting in coffees with bright acidity, medium body, and layered sweetness.
This lot is proudly brought to you by our partners at Excelsco Coffee, who work with various smallholder farmers across the Coffee Axis to create a carefully crafted regional blend. The name “Ixtapa” is a trade name used to represent this curated selection—signifying consistency and quality while showcasing the diverse terroirs of Colombia’s central coffee belt. By blending coffees from multiple zones, Excelsco Coffee ensures a reliable flavor profile year after year, while maintaining strong relationships with farmers through quality premiums and sustainability initiatives.
This lot is graded as Excelso, a Colombian export grade referring to bean size (15/16) rather than cup profile. Supremo beans (17/18) and Excelso beans are often harvested together but sorted by size during processing.
It also meets EP (European Preparation) standards, meaning beans are carefully sorted and cleaned to remove defects.
