Description

Finca Capetillo has a rich history dating back to 1874 when it was purchased by José Mariano Rodriguez. Over the years, it has been a hub of agricultural innovation. Juan José Rodriguez, a world-renowned entomologist, introduced modern agricultural practices, which were further advanced by Federico and Ernesto Rodriguez Benito in the next generation. In 1942, respected lawyer José Falla partnered with Federico and Ernesto to create Rodriguez, Falla & Co, which has owned and managed Capetillo ever since. The founders shared a passion for agriculture and developed a keen interest in coffee.

Today, in its 6th generation of ownership, Capetillo is expertly managed. The estate has seen extensive coffee planting, densification of plantations, the introduction of new coffee varieties, and improvements in pest management and fertilization programs. The farm, covering over 300 hectares, is situated at elevations between 1,380 and 1,500 meters above sea level. Its volcanic soils, rich in volcanic sand and ash from surrounding volcanoes like Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango, provide an ideal environment for nurturing impressive coffee varieties, including Bourbon (yellow and red beans), Pache, Caturra, Pacamara, and Catuaí.

Finca Capetillo creates jobs for the local and rural Guatemalan population through manual coffee harvesting. They prioritize excellent working conditions, along with housing, healthcare, and education. The farm operates a school established in 1942, providing free primary education for 150 children, including employees’ children and those from the nearby town. This school is recognized by the national education system, allowing students to continue to secondary education. Capetillo also offers a computer program, ensuring modern educational standards.

The farm leads in eco-friendly practices, such as water conservation by recycling well water in the processing mill. Capetillo is actively involved in preserving the natural environment around its coffee plantations, fostering a living forest across its 300+ hectares dedicated to coffee.
