Colombia Organic Excelso EP fancy Lohas - Grainpro
Colombia
Description
Huila, located in southwestern Colombia, is one of the country’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Nestled between the Central and Eastern Andes, it benefits from fertile volcanic soil, abundant water sources, and stable year-round temperatures. With altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,900 meters above sea level, Huila’s coffee farms enjoy a slow cherry maturation process, developing beans with bright acidity, complex fruit notes, and a creamy body. The region’s microclimates, combined with traditional farming practices, have helped establish Huila as a benchmark origin for high-quality Colombian coffee.
Lohas is a specialty-focused exporter dedicated to transparency, sustainability, and quality. In Huila, Lohas is returning to sourcing directly from individual producer groups after experimenting with larger consolidation programs. This move strengthens relationships with smallholder farmers and safeguards traceability. Facing intense competition for organic coffees, Lohas has maintained independence from larger operators who often control certifications and pricing. To ensure consistency and uphold its quality standards, all organic lots are transported from Huila to the Lohas mill in Santa Marta, where the coffees are carefully milled, sorted, and prepared for export.
This coffee is graded Excelso EP, indicating large, uniform beans (screen 15+) that have been hand-sorted to meet European Preparation standards. Certified Organic, it is grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or GMOs—farmers instead use natural composting, crop diversification, and biological pest control. The combination of meticulous preparation and certified organic cultivation yields a clean, vibrant cup that showcases Colombia’s terroir and the integrity of its producers.
