More Information

Known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," Rwanda offers exceptional growing conditions for specialty coffee. High elevations, fertile volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and mild temperatures allow coffee cherries to mature slowly, producing dense beans with vibrant acidity, refined sweetness, and outstanding cup clarity.

The majority of Rwanda's coffee is produced by smallholder farmers cultivating just a few hundred coffee trees on family-owned plots. After harvest, ripe cherries are typically delivered to centralized washing stations, where careful sorting, fermentation, and drying ensure consistently high-quality coffees. This collaborative model has strengthened traceability while providing producers with access to technical support, quality incentives, and international specialty markets.

Since the early 2000s, Rwanda has invested heavily in modern washing stations, farmer education, and quality-focused processing techniques, transforming the country into one of Africa's leading specialty coffee origins. Today, ICT primarily sources fully washed coffees that showcase Rwanda's signature profile of bright citrus, stone fruit, floral aromatics, and refined sweetness, while also offering select natural and experimental lots that highlight the continued innovation of the country's coffee sector.
